Perth Pioneer: First Digital Management Company To Enter Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor

US$5million Cyberjaya-based business operations to support nation's drive to knowledge economy

Optimiser - Perth-based creator of the first Digital Management service engine to support authoritative metadata frameworks - is to centre its Asian R&D and marketing operations in Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) bastion cyber city, Cyberjaya, following its recent award of MSC-status. Digital Management is recognised as a strategic Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for the nation's ongoing development of its knowledge-based services economy.

As an MSC-status enterprise, Optimiser Digital Management Sdn Bhd will work with Malaysian ventures to deliver sector-focused Digital Management (DM) solutions for various Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC) projects. The company will also found a dedicated DM R&D laboratory in Cyberjaya, and set up marketing operations to drive commercial sales of DM solutions worldwide.

"Digital Management will be pivotal to the continuing convergence of the various ICT industries," said Leo Mullins, Optimiser's CEO. "More importantly, it will be a cornerstone for bridging the current gap in online trading interfaces between the intangible world of digital assets and the unmanaged, often pirated, delivery of digital products and services.

"We believe the Multimedia Development Corporation has shown great foresight in recognising the importance of Digital Management as a discipline and strategic solution area in its own right. Our new Cyberjaya operations will be a centre-of-excellence for leading-edge Digital Management research and refinement."

Optimiser's authoritative metadata engine (AME) for Digital Management services, assessed by BT Exact - the telco's technologies research and assessment unit, provides the ability to continuously and dynamically track and control digital assets, anywhere and at any time. Authoritative metadata frameworks are seen as the backbone of future electronic mercantile systems by such bodies as the World Intellectual Property Organisation and the European Commission, in its INFO 2000 Indecs Report.

"The strategic vision of the MSC and MDC for the continuing success of Malaysia's economy is, in a word, knowledge," said Dr Wilson Tay, Vice President of the Multimedia Development Corporation, the Cyberjaya-based organisation entrusted by the Malaysian government to oversee Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor project. "We are therefore in the business of making and identifying technologies that will give rise to the superstructure of tomorrow's trading and commercial systems. Optimiser shares our vision and we are pleased to welcome it, as the first company concentrating on Digital Management, to the Cyberjaya community and the MSC Technopreneur Development Flagship initiative."

Inventor of an innovative ICT infrastructure solution, Optimiser demonstrates an impressive track-record of original thinking and innovative application design that makes it a veteran, well ahead of the field, in the emerging Digital Management sector. A Top 25 Finalist in Austrade's 2001 Silicon Valley High-Tech Tour, the company entered the trade development agency's New Export Programme in 2003 when it was also an ANZA Technology Showcase Conference in Palo Alto.

Developed in open source and completely XML-compliant, Optimiser's Authoritative Metadata Engine - or AME - provides a platform-independent, Web-based service for managing application and content sales and distribution, in real-time. Employing the latest encryption methodologies in a unique way, Optimiser's eContract system ensures that a valid contract exists between the Intellectual Property owner and the customer or user.

As a one-stop agency, the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC) has been established by the Malaysian Government to facilitate the development of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) into a Global ICT Hub, and to expedite the entry of world-class companies and investors into the MSC. MDC is also empowered to grant MSC-status to companies wishing to locate and establish their operations in the MSC, which, amongst others, entitles companies to the Bill of Guarantees.

Also eEntrusted to MDC is the task of facilitating the growth and development of Malaysian Technopreneurs, as well as SMEs which are focused on ICT, biotechnology and other strategic high-technology industries, into competitive global companies. This key strategic thrust of the MSC is embodied within the MSC Technopreneur Development Flagship (MSC-TDF) initiative with key programmes such as Lead Generation, Funding, Incubation and Acceleration, Market Access, Business and Technology Innovation Centre (BATIC) software laboratory support, MSC Technopreneurship Centre (MSC-TeC) skills and competency development, Business Coaching & Mentoring and a Technopreneur Information Services Portal at www.msc-tdf.com.my.

Optimiser, founded in 1996, is the creator of a unique, patent-pending Web service infrastructure that provides comprehensive Digital Management capabilities to owners, publishers and vendors of digitally-stored Intellectual Property. Assessed by BT Exact as "completely unique and original", Optimiser's service platform is an open source-developed Authoritative Metadata Engine - or AME - that meets the metadata framework requirements for administrating digital assets and rights, as defined by such bodies as the World Intellectual Property Organisation and the European Commission, in its Indecs 2000 Report.
